Aetherial Racers

Engineering Specifications

  • þ: 1,600,000,000W
  • Mass: 300,000kg
  • Length: 75m
  • Max Acceleration: 103.3m/s/s
  • Propulsion: 1 Mini Merlin Engine
  • Special Feature: Very Fast
  • Crew: 2 Starlers (Typically)
  • Ship Design Focus: Clipper ships – gets cargo to market quickly.

Combat Specifications

To officially be an Aetherial Racer, you need to have a 70m long cargo hold and an Imp Engine. The very old ones were constructed during the great Belter gold rush of 2103 and they set the form. They were designed to get goods to destination as quickly as possible, gold to the market and perishable goods on the return. Almost immediately they were raced by their crews and some names became famous. With short cuts through outer atmosphere of gas giants, the racers became streamlined in design. The original ships from this era are considered classics and are sought after.

The same speed that protected the gold from pirates and got perishables to their destination also makes them the smugglers ship of choice. Although Aetherial Racers are (just under) half as fast as a Punch Runner, they are considerably cheaper to buy (new).

Punch Runners

Engineering Specifications

  • þ: 16,000,000,000W
  • Mass: 550,000kg
  • Length: 100m
  • Max Acceleration: 241.2m/s/s
  • Propulsion: 1 Merlin Engine
  • Special Feature: Very Very Fast
  • Crew: 2 Starlers (Typically)
  • Ship Design Focus: Creating portals to other systems.

Combat Specifications

Richer competitors started putting in full size Merlin Engines achieving acceleration of 241.2m/s/s. In the annual Jupiter Run, these were considered a second class of racer and so two champion cups are available. It is thought there will soon be a third cup as it is inevitable that a Double T Runner will be made.

HATTER saw a utility in these overpowered ships and put portal generators in place of their cargo holds, creating the Punch Running industry. Punch Runners do the leg work in generating portals between systems, typically near gas giants. A succession of Punch Runners make sure portals are consistently and regularly available between systems.

DT Punch Runners

Engineering Specifications

  • þ: 32,000,000,000W
  • Mass: 800,000kg
  • Length: 120m
  • Max Acceleration: 282.8m/s/s
  • Propulsion: 1 Merlin Engine
  • Special Feature: 2x Very Very Fast
  • Crew: 2 Starlers (Typically)
  • Ship Design Focus: Creating portals to other systems.

Combat Specifications

In 2215 these are only theoretical as there is no real need to build one.

Writers Note

A cargo hold requires a box with doors and has the same mass as a portal generator.
