Humanitarian Alliance Food Office
In order of priority, HAFO has the following duties:
- Food Safety. The primary function of the HAFO is to make sure food is safe to eat. More important even than it being correctly labelled, although this distinction is only made for legal clarity.
- Animal Welfare. Only surpassed in priority by human welfare, i.e. food safety, high quality animal welfare is a high priority to HAFO. No animal should suffer before its death and consumption by the human race. Producers of space cows are watched as closely as any other Earth based producer.
- Correct labelling. Simply put, meat labelled as beef must be beef and not anything else. It must also be labelled with the constituent contents, such as sugar and it must be measured to a SI, which is generally grams for mass and litres for volume. Also only protected regions may label specifically, so all produced called Champagne must be made in France’s Champagne region and only Cheddar cheese from Cheddar in Somerset England, may be called Gorge Cheddar.
- Provenance. The listing and confirming of all provenance such as Gorge Cheddar is to be maintained by HAFO.
- Source Security. Genetic encyclopaedia, seed banks and living reserve gardens are to be maintained so if commercial production or habitat loss causes a species to become otherwise extinct, HAFO will be able to re-establish the producers. One of the HAFO registered stocks is the REC's sphere famous herb garden with every herb known to the human race. The REC owns the garden but volunteered it to HAFO who officially adopted it.
