Robilliverse

Robilliverse Legal Notice

Robilliverse is the nearly open Sci-Fi universe. I want budding authors to have a foundation to write books, publish and make money that gets them writing as their main job. I want in fact any creative person with anything from a play to playing cards to be free create and earn money to put food on the table and have fun for their day job. I would love to put it into the public domain but that would mean that the heartless could profit without contributing, so there is the following legal statement followed by an ethical pledge. Please read it carefully.

Legal Notice

  1. All rights to the use of my material are reserved. You may not use my material, outside that granted by law, under any circumstance unless I grant you a license to use it.
  2. Separate and individual licenses can be negotiated.
  3. The author of all works, me, is James Robilliard unless explicitly specified as otherwise.

The Bridgwater License 2015

I hereby name the 'Bridgwater License 2015' and grant you rights to use it. Its terms are as follows:
  1. No copies of my work may be reproduced.
  2. Any revenue below USD 50k generated by work from you or your group based on material found within the Robilliverse may be kept in its entirety by you and your group. Any revenue after the first USD 50k and up to the total of USD 100k will be subject to a 5% fee to be paid within 30 days to me. Any revenue above the first USD 100k is subject to a 90% fee to be paid within 30 days to me.
  3. Any failure to pay by allotted time in this license will lead to the suspension of your right to use my work.
  4. All products produced under the 'Bridgwater License 2015' must clearly state 'Produced under the Bridgwater license of Robilliverse 2015' or 'Robilliverse Bridgwater License 2015'.
  5. If I deem the work of you or your group to be too similar to my work I may suspend this license.
  6. If I deem your work to be offensive I may revoke this license. It can happen at any time and I am judge and my word is final. If you can't accept this do not accept the license.

Ethical Statement

I have to keep the rights locked up so I can keep control of the door to the content. As long as I have the keys and only I have the keys I can open the door for you and I promise I will. I have listed the license using revenue as opposed to profit as it is possible to do more than one project and assign all costs to the project containing my work, this nullifying the profit. Revenue cannot be nullified in this way. There is a cost to living and I have taken actions to ensure I receive fair payment for my creative works. I categorically state here and now that I am not interested in anything more than my fair share. The 90% term is to encourage creative individuals or groups to seek a separate license, I don't intend on going after 90% where it would be unfair to do so. Here are some Q and A fictional examples of how I see it working:

  • Q. I've written a school play to raise some money for the school. It should raise a few thousand pounds.
  • A. I seek no money from you. Please put 'Robilliverse Bridgwater License 2015' on any flyers or booklets. Break a leg.
  • Q. I've produced gaming cards based on your universe that I'm going to sell on the internet. So far I've made' EUR 4000.
  • A. Put 'Robilliverse Bridgwater License 2015' on the box; it doesn't need to be on every card. Please contact me again when your revenue goes over USD 50k. Well done and good luck to you.
  • Q. I've written a book that doesn't use much of your material but is in your universe.
  • A. Please put 'Produced under the Bridgwater license of Robilliverse 2015' on the inside page and please send it to me read. Once done I'll confirm to you in writing that you'd not be in breach of any clause. Should you seek to use the Bridgwater License 2015 and if my input really is minimal then maybe we can agree a flat 1% on revenue after the first USD 50k. Lets talk.
  • Q. I represent a major film studio and will make millions for a film we're producing but it uses some of your material. I obviously can't make it without having all the licensing I need or if I'm not able to make a profit on it.
  • A. No problem. Let's work out the value of the material you're using and give you a custom license. Please know that I will not sell any rights or provide you with exclusivity that will restrict other users of Robilliverse. We can agree what is your material and agree a 'use of rights' price. Let's do lunch.
